This week for our 100 Word Challenge we had to include the words bicycle, desperate, yellow, warned and greedily, and we were told to theme it around our exhibition issue, and mine is loss of biodiversity. If you would like to know more about my exhibition, see some of my other posts! I enjoyed writing these 100 words, and I hope you enjoy reading them.

He warned me against it, I know. Though I was trying to be mindful about the world, I couldn’t help greedily leaning down from my yellow bicycle to only to sniff their beautiful scent, that threw me back to happy memories of my summer holidays, running over the beach and into the waves, before throwing them over my shoulder into the organics bin right behind me. Before I knew it, he was standing next to my bike, saying, “Come on, please! You know better than this. Our planet is desperate.”

“I know, I know,” I replied, “but what is the point of nature?”

“To keep us thriving,” he replied.

Exhibition Reflection Week 9

This week we have been working on the ‘making conclusions’ part of the Year 5 Exhibition. We have had to make 3 information texts, which can be in any format we want as long as it summarises all of the information we found out about that line of inquiry,  as we have to make one for each line.

The above image is of my first fact sheet, about the main factors that affect biodiversity. I have finished my second and am working on my third, but I feel that that one was my best one so far. Also, in the ‘making conclusions’ part of the exhibition, we have been working on some other things that aren’t finished yet.

It has been a really fun week of exhibition, and i am looking forward to next week.

The two men shook hands outside the bank, smiling. “I be incredibly proud of our deal, and I hope thee is too?”, one said.

“I also be very proud, and I believe that it will greatly benefit our people”, the other replied. They were standing outside of the Masonic Temple, and continued smiling as people took sketches of the significant moment in history for the local paper.

All of a sudden, the rest of the world froze. The men both felt their joints becoming stiffer and stiffer until they can’t move them at all, the world was changing, changing, changing. The two were lost in time.

Finding Out, Sorting Out, and Going Further

For this post I will be reflecting on the ‘Finding Out’, ‘Sorting Out’, and ‘Going Further’ stages of our Year 5 Exhibition.

Finding Out:

For the finding out, it was pretty simple finding websites to answer my questions, but it was challenging at times to find sites about my question; ‘Is lack of biodiversity really a bad thing?’ I think it was hard to find sites about this, because most people just assume that it isn’t a bad thing.

Sorting Out:

When we were sorting out it was pretty simple, because all we had to do was write down our lines of inquiry, write down the key points for what we had found out about those lines of inquiry, and if we didn’t have enough research then we had to keep finding out.

Going Further:

When we were going further, we had to see if we had enough research, and if we didn’t, then we had to continue our finding out. I didn’t rally have to doo much of this as I already had enough research.

Thank you all or reading this post, and I will be posting more progress on the exhibition soon! Bye!

Birthday Graphs

This week in class we were making graphs about the number of birthdays per month fo the people in our class. We had to do multiple drafts, making each one better with feedback from our peers and teacher.

The first image is of my first graph, and because I was thinking about making it look fresh, I left too much of a space, so it looked like it was too small. I think I tried hard for this first draft, but it wasn’t my best work. The second image is of my second graph, which I made bigger, so it looked more full, as in it took up more of the page. I changed my thoughts because I had the feedback that it. Was a bit small, and that I hadn’t labelled the axis. I feel like this was a sample of a bit of my best work, and I am proud of it. In making these graphs, I learnt how to make things better, while in a way, keeping them the same. In the comments, please let me know which one you liked better, and any feedback you might have.

Thanks, Sophie 😎

Exhibition Reflection Week 6

This week we continued our ‘Finding Out’, and we only have until the 3rd of September to finish our finding out and start getting our presentation sorted. I found a few good sites, but the ones that have had the most information were: https://www.worldbookonline.com/wb/Login?ed=wb&id=812 , https://newsela.com and http://education.abc.net.au/home#!/home .

I am looking forward to presenting but I still have to do a fair bit of research before Tuesday. I have been challenged in finding sites apart from the ones linked above, but I have Ben making progress in note-taking. That is my reflection for this week, but as it is Father’s Day on Sunday, let’s give all the Father’s a day off. I will be posting again soon,  but for now, bye!!

Isometric drawing

This week in maths we were learning about isometric shapes. The video is about the image that we made while doing a challenge. The video link is here: https://vimeo.com/355259630 And the site link is here: https://www.nctm.org/Classroom-Resources/Illuminations/Interactives/Isometric-Drawing-Tool/

The attached image is of the shapes that we had to draw on a piece of isometric paper. The coloured one is the thing that I drew on the tool. Hope you like them!!

Exhibition Reflection 2

Sorry that I didn’t post an exhibition reflection last week. I was away! We have finally finished the tuning in stage (see the upcoming post), and now we have moved on to the finding out stage, where we start researching! So far we have learned a bit about the different note-taking strategies, and it has been super fun so far. If you would like to know more about the entire week, check out our podcast, Year 5 Weekly: http://year5sas.edublogs.org

Thank you for reading, and there will definitely be more posts in the upcoming week. Bye!!

Tuning in Reflection

I know that you have probably heard parts of this before, but today I am going to be reflecting on the ‘Tuning In’ stage of the inquiry cycle. My lines of inquiry are; An inquiry into whether lack of plant biodiversity is really a bad thing, an inquiry into what we can do to protect biodiversity and an inquiry into the main factors that affect biodiversity. Lines of inquiry, in case you didn’t know, are statements beginning with ‘an inquiry into…’ that drive your inquiry. The central idea that my group and I came up with is ‘Our advancements impact the natural world’. The concepts that my group are using are; causation, change and responsibility, and our related concepts are; impact, cycles and values. Thank you so much for reading, and I will be posting more next week. Bye!!
